This is a reminder that state LEAP testing for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders begins today (April 30), and will continue Tuesday (May 1), Wednesday (May 2), Thursday (May 3), and Friday (May 4).
Here are some reminders to help us have a smooth testing week:
  • Please make sure that your child arrives to school by 8:30 am, so testing can begin on time.
  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will not need their backpacks, and should leave them at home all week.
  • Cell phones, tablets, smart watches, and other electronic devices are NOT PERMITTED on campus during testing! Please leave them at home.
  • According to state guidelines for test security, visitors are not permitted on campus during testing week. We pledge to keep the testing environment peaceful, so the students can focus on showing what they know.
  • If your child wears glasses, please remind them to bring them to school!
  • Please make sure your child gets lots of rest each night this week so they can do their best for testing!
The students and teachers have worked hard all year, and we know they are going to knock it out of the park! Thank you for everything you do to help your child succeed!

A huge thank you also to Pamela Mattassa and GMFS Mortgage for featuring DI on their radio program, Mortgage Matters. Our segment will air this Sunday at approximately 12:45 on TALK 107.3 FM. Please tune in! You may have seen us on billboards this week, advertising the segment.

We hope to see everyone tomorrow morning at the Kolache Kitchen Rolling Pin for an early breakfast. Kolache Kitchen is one of our fantastic DI sponsors, and your purchase will get us one step closer to Destination Imagination Global Finals!

The Rolling Pin Food Truck will be parked in our parking lot, near the Arts Building. You may park in the Catholic Life parking lot and purchase your food to eat with your child in their classroom or the cafeteria. The cafeteria will be open from 7:00 am to 8:00 am. Then, parents may come to the classrooms with their children for breakfast from 8:00 - 8:30 am.
Students will not be allowed to purchase food from the food truck unless they are accompanied by an adult.
We are so grateful for all of you and hope to see you all for this year's "Kolaches with your Kids" breakfast!
All proceeds will go towards sending our 2018 Destination Imagination State Champions to the global competition in Knoxville, TN.

Open up Let the Light In!

This piece was created to tell a story that nearly everyone has lived through. Sometimes the world seems dark and we feel alone as we walk through life. This dance is about opening up yourself to give good things out to the world and allowing yourself to receive light and happiness from the people around you.

Here is our BRCVPA Dance Troupe with this beautiful contemporary piece to "Open Up Let the Light In."

Kinetic Artist Barton Gilley Visits DI

4/23/2018

Picture
Local artist, Barton Gilley, known around Baton Rouge for his replica of R2D2 and his animatronic puppets, Twiggly and the piranha plant from Mario Brothers, brought his craft and his creations to the Destination Imagination students. After showing and explaining how his creations operate and were built, Mr. Gilley allowed the students to handle his creations. Students got to manipulate Twiggly and to "drive" R2D2. Extended Day students got in on the fun as R2D2 drove around the gym. Our thanks to Mr. Barton for his patience with questions and his willingness to let students experience STEAM as applied in his art.

You can learn more about Mr. Gilley and his passion by watching his TED Talk, The Art of Self-Improvement: Doing What You Love Until It's Done Right.
