We have been working hard this summer getting the school ready for this new year. Over the past few weeks, we've had a contractor out here working on our new teacher workroom. It looks fantastic!! We have the best teachers in the parish, and they deserve a wonderful place to work.

I would like to say a great big THANK YOU to Mr. Wallace Collins with WLC Handyman, LLC for all your hard work. He donated so much of his time and labor to ensure this project was done right! Please feel free to contact him if you have any big or small projects you'd like to get done.

Summer Camp

In Spanish class, we learned about how people in the Sierra Norte Mountains of Mexico make artistic paper. They cut bark off of different species of ficus trees, cook down the bark in huge pots, lay out the treated bark in a grid pattern, smash the bark into a pulp with a volcanic stone, and lay it out in the sun to dry.

After watching videos of this process, the students then treated their own classroom paper to make it look authentic by tearing the edges, crumpling the paper, and smoothing it out for texture. Then they used oil pastel crayons to depict their interpretation of a village or an animal's habitat scene.

Louisiana Student Standards

As you have likely heard or read, at a joint meeting of legislative education committees, the Legislature ratified the Louisiana Student Standards in ELA and math developed by the Standards Review Committees and adopted by BESE earlier this year. Upon the vote, the Governor voiced his support as well, allowing the standards to clear the final hurdle on their way to final adoption. The Louisiana Student Standards now are the law of our state and will be implemented beginning with the 2016-2017 school year and henceforth.
