Native American Day at BRCVPA

11/25/2016

We wish you and your family a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
Gobble, gobble!
Students in Mrs. Orillion's class enjoyed a very special American Indian visitor! Mr. Tom Varnado, better known as Strong Buffalo, visited with five classes of curious and excited Pre-K and K students and invited each group into his giant tepee to share his heritage and American Indian culture. Students were treated to a multisensory experience with animal hides, conch shell horn and gourd shakers, gourd bowls, oyster shell spoons and knives, corn cob darts, leather goods, and colorful stories of life before grocery stores, modern housing, TV and ipads! Mrs. Orillion's students were treated to a barefoot nature walk to explore the natural environment just like our early ancestors used to do! Mrs. Orillion joined the fun with her own American Indian clothing for the day complete with braids and barefeet! "
