Congratulations to all of the spellers who represented their 4th and 5th grade homerooms in the BRCVPA 8th Annual Spelling Bee. The spelling was fierce! After many rounds, our winner, 4th grader, Fawwaz S emerged victorious by correctly spelling the championship word, “dreadful.” Fifth grader Aliyah T placed second, and 4th grader Brandon Y came in 3rd place.
We would like to congratulate, Maheba S for winning the annual Manners of the Heart Christmas Card decorating contest!
3rd graders from all Manners of the Heart schools in East Baton Rouge Parish submitted entries into the contest, which was judged by the following local artists:
There were well over 100 entries, and Maheba was selected as the first place winner! Her artwork will be printed on the organizations annual Christmas card and delivered to homes across the country.
We would like to thank all the students who participated, and our 3rd grade teachers who inspired their creativity in class and encouraged them to participate. Great job boys and girls!
We would also like to thank Manners of the Heart for their continued partnership with BRCVPA, and this fun opportunity for our students.
You may have seen one or both of these commercials on the news recently and thought the kids looked familiar...

Second-grade students in Ms. de Silva's class chose their own three digit numbers and created poses to represent how large or small the numbers were. They got with a partner or two and compared their numbers using a greater than or less than sign. Then they compared their numbers to volume in music and discussed how the greater than sign looks the same same as a crescendo in music and a less than sign looks the same as a decrescendo in music. They learned that crescendo means to get louder in music and a decrescendo means to get softer. As you can see they got very creative with their poses!
After consulting with the Office of Emergency Preparedness, WAFB, and WBRZ, and with safety of our students and staff as a top priority, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System will be closed tomorrow, Friday, December 8th.
There is potential for sleet, snow, and icy conditions between the hours of 4 am and 8 am during peak transportation times. All after school activities planned for today will continue as scheduled.
Please be safe. See you on Monday.
