Students who met their AR goals for the 3rd nine weeks were invited to attend a "Breakout Party." Upon arrival they received an envelope marked "confidential" which explained that they needed to solve various clues hid around the library. The end goal was to unlock a box secured with a directional lock, a date lock, a key lock, and a word lock; the clues they solved provided them with the combinations to the locks. While the students worked furiously, a timer ran down from 45 minutes. Some students opened their box in an impressive 35 minutes while others anxiously worked down to the last few minutes. The second graders were especially impressive as the youngest and the smallest group to open the box with 8 minutes to spare.
