Pre-K students are learning all kinds of ways to use their imaginations. To bring the letter "M" to life, children collected materials from around the playground to add to make MESSY MUD PIES.
They had so much fun creating different patterns in their pies and sharing their creation with their friends. YAD DRAWKCAB LANOITAN. .yad doog a si sihT January 31st honors everything backward. National Backward Day is an opportunity to reverse our ways, our direction or simply our shirt. Dessert for breakfast, perhaps? There are many ways to celebrate this fun day, so just let your imagination be your guide. This day is very popular with school-aged kids, but there is no age limit on who can participate in all of the backward fun. So EVERYONE, let’s have some fun!! FUN FACT: Leonardo da Vinci wrote backward. Not only did the artist and inventor write from right to left, but he also wrote his letters backward. On Wednesday, January 31st, students may wear free dress...with a twist! Students can wear their free dress clothes backwards in celebration of National Backward Day!
Our very own BRCVPA American Sign Language club was invited to kick off the City Council meeting last week by signing the Pledge of Allegiance. They did an outstanding job, and were presented with certificates. A special thank you to Mrs. Kurowski for organizing this event for our students and for giving them this incredible opportunity to share what they do with our community. Job well done! Recorder Percussion Club has been invited to perform in “A Night of Broadway!” as guests of the McKinley Middle Academic Magnet of Visual and Performing Arts School choir. The performance will be held on January 30th at 6:00 pm. This is a fundraiser so tickets are $10 at the door. Recorder Percussion Club families will be provided one complementary ticket. A special rehearsal will be held at MMAM on January 29th at 5:30 pm. Recorder Percussion Club members must attend the rehearsal in order to perform. Please contact Mrs. de Silva if you would like to help transport instruments Monday afternoon before rehearsal and Tuesday Night after the performance. We hope to see you there!

Saturday was a great dance day for BRCVPA. Amelia, a 5th grade student, competed with her dance team from Powell-Moise and scored the Top Scoring Solo of the day out of nearly 40 solos.
Mrs. Ruble's dance team from Baton Rouge Dance Connection also competed and Mrs. Ruble was honored with 2 choreography awards. Congratulations to both of these incredible dancers! The 2017-18 Science and Social Studies Fair was a tremendous success. Thank you to all the hardworking parents, teachers, and students for producing such amazing projects. The judges were wowed by the content, presentations, and personalities of our students. We would like to extend a special thank you to our judges from various fields in our community including The Louisiana Department of Education, Rubicon, The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, the restaurant industry, AND one of our favorite retired teachers, Mrs. Mercier! The story of Kit and Fred came to life in Mrs. Montero's Kindergarten class. Students read the story, discussed the characters, setting, and plot in groups, chose a character or setting to portray, and acted out the story. Teamwork and creativity were critical ingredients in the process! Some students were Kit, some were Fred, and some were the table. If any of your family and friends are looking into pre-k 4 programs for next year, tell them to come check us out tomorrow between 9:00 - 11:00 for our Pre-K Open House!
