Our 3rd grade All-Star artists completed their most recent artwork in honor of Black History Month. Their pieces were inspired by Alma Thomas, an amazing artist who focused on sharing her love for art with her community.
She was the first graduate of Howard University's art department and maintained connections to that university through her life. She achieved success as an African American female artist despite the segregation and prejudice of her time. BRCVPA students took an emotional inventory to drive their color choices for this mosaic style piece. Each ring created represents their own feelings. The smallest rings are the emotions that they feel the least amount of time recently, and the larger rings represent how they feel most of the time. Each student did a beautiful job of making this project their own, and it was a great way to check on how these sweet kiddos have been feeling lately!

Our second graders put on quite the show before Mardi Gras break. We've got such talented students and an amazing arts staff! Carnival Season may be over for this year, but we've got tons of memories that were made! Before the break, we finished Mardi Gras season in style with our annual Kindergarten parade. Check out the Krewes of Land, Air, and Sea!
Over Mardi Gras Break several 4th and 5th grade BRCVPA students took a trip to Walt Disney World! The students participated in a program called Imagination Campus: The Technology of Disney Parks. They learned all about how creativity, artistry, imagination, and technology come together to create the various immersive experiences and attractions throughout Disney parks. The students were able to go backstage and get a sneak peek at some of the mechanisms that help to create the magic. We are so happy that we were able to provide this experience for the students and so thankful to all the parents and teachers who helped to make this dream a reality. Mark your calendars for next year!
We are so proud to announce that Mrs. Jackolyn Cavalier’s (BRCVPA Executive Secretary) daughter, Ms. Ashley Cavalier has written and published a great children’s book entitled, “Doctor, Do You Know. . .” Ms. Ashley Cavalier attended the Baton Rouge Center for Visual & Performing Arts from Kindergarten to fifth grade.
In short, this book is about a little girl that struggles with a rare disease and her experiences. This is a great book to add to your libraries. We will be having Ms. Ashley at school next week for a book reading and signing. You may purchase a book in advance and have her sign the book when she is here for the reading. The books are $12. PLEASE FILL OUT the Google Form attached and send CASH ONLY in a clearly labeled envelope to school through next Thursday, March 2nd. There will be NO CHANGE given. You must send the exact amount. The book reading will be on Thursday March 2nd. Your student will receive the book they pre-ordered along with Ms. Ashley's signature on this day. PLEASE NOTE:
