Elijah went to visit his uncle in Miami for a few days. His dad buried him and his brother in the sand! On the way back to Louisiana, they made a stop at Disney World. They had a blast, and are so sad the summer is coming to an end, but Elijah is ecstatic about starting second grade, and seeing all his friends again.

Hannah is making the most of her last few weeks of vacation before entering her 3rd grade year at BRCVPA. She recently attended two horse riding camps held in Baton Rouge. In addition, she “caught some waves” while vacationing in Orange Beach.
Dad is mentally preparing for the upcoming 3rd grade year:) Emma spent almost the entire summer in Japan visiting her grandparents! She also went to elementary school while they were there, and had a great time. Here is a picture of her with her brother and aunt at Togetsu bridge in Kyoto, Japan. We can't wait to hear about your adventures!
Ms. de Silva may have had a little too much fun learning at her three day music teachers’ workshop in Memphis! She can’t wait to share the wonderful lessons she learned, with the children.
The workshop "Making Music in Memphis" with Artie and Denise was held from July 16 - July 18. Over 200 music teachers from across the country attended and collaborated together! They packed a ton of quality material into such a short time. They also provided so many links to their resources and visuals that are sure to increase student engagement and enrichment! It was overwhelmingly wonderful. Artie Almeida and Denise Gagne are very big names in the music teacher world. The school already owns many of their publications and Ms. de Silva has been using them in her classroom for years. Ms. de Silva said, "It was simply a privilege and a joy to get to learn directly from these two wonderful music educators!" A very special thank you to our donors for their generosity and support for music education in our schools:
We are counting down the final days until school starts, and we couldn't be more excited to have all of our students back on campus, and to welcome our new students and families to BRCVPA! Please add the following dates to your calendar, so you can be sure to get all of the important back-to-school information to ensure your child's success this school year.
A few notes: Pre-K parents, please see the school calendar for specific staggered entry dates for your children. Open House is designed for all BRCVPA students and their families. At open house, you will meet your child's teachers, drop off supplies if you did not purchase a supply kit, visit the Arts classes and the library, reunite with old friends, and help us kick off the 2019-2020 school year! Curriculum Night is a parent-focused evening where we will communicate curriculum expectations, parent resources, school-wide and grade-level expectations, BRCVPA communication tools, and help you get set up with Parent Access, Renaissance HomeConnect, and more! Please plan to attend. Last month Lyllian was invited to attend a local art exhibit where she was featured as an up and coming artist. At the exhibit she showcased her first book titled, “the Lovely Lady Lyllian”. The book is a brief introduction of her and her love for the arts. We are so excited about you and your family joining our Baton Rouge Center family!
Check this out! Emma helped her mom grow these sunflowers which are now as tall as she is!! Maybe we should put her in charge of growing a sunflower garden here at BRCVPA? Sounds like a great idea!
Mrs. Ruble has written a Donors Choose grant to help replace the tap shoes in her classroom. The shoes last for years, so even our youngest students will benefit from these shoes when they reach upper elementary! ![]() Help me give my students new tap shoes so that they have the opportunity to learn this classic American Dance style. They will also have the materials to take their costumes on the road! My Project: My students will use these tap shoes to learn this classic American Dance Style. They will focus on tap dance for 1 Quarter each year from 3rd through 5th grade. Tap dance is not only a fantastic dance skill, it develops the brain in a way that benefits children's reading and math abilities. When they are creating rhythms with both sides of the body, they are creating synapses that allow the brain to better comprehend what they are reading. Students at our school also have the opportunity to take their show on the road! The traveling duffel bag will keep our shoes and costumes safe as we travel, and the large curtain will allow us to cover the mirror so our performance is stage-ready! Kennedy and Terryn enjoyed many awesome summer camp activities at their grandmother's camp. They were exposed to many cultures and countries. Their favorite activity this week involved learning to make and play a Didgeridoo from the land down under.....AUSTRALIA!
