Next week will be BRCVPA's first Bingo event with Grandparents! Please come out and enjoy a fun evening of bingo, student prizes, and quality time!
Bingo cards will be sold at the event for $10.00/book (3 cards per sheet for 10 games). We will also be selling pizza by the slice, along with drinks and other snack concessions. Moms and Dads who don't want to miss out on the fun can volunteer to work the event by clicking here! Our 4th grade students worked together to explore the effects of rainwater on soil and the environment. Students worked with their lab groups to create a blend of soil, sand, and gravel which they exposed to water in order to better understand erosion.
Students in Mrs. Montero's kindergarten class are having fun learning the routines, procedures, and rules of kindergarten. It looks like it is going to be a great kindergarten year!

Late this afternoon, we discovered that an entire lane of Acadian Thruway is blocked due to a hole in the road and construction. We received permission to begin carpool at 2:45 p.m. and dismissed the students whose parents were in line. Carpool is running now, and we are keeping it moving.
We are doing everything we can to get your children home safe and on time. Thank you for your patience! Mrs. Dafoe won new books for the library by entering a contest through Mackin! Solve mysteries with Kayla and her dog King. Look for this great new series in the library!
Thank you Mackin! Our first Tasty Tuesday will be next week: Tuesday, August 29th. The students will be able to pre-order smoothies from Smoothie King. Please send $3.00 in a sealed envelope no later than Monday, August 28th if your child would like to participate!
Click the flyer for more information, and for upcoming Tasty Tuesdays this Fall. These dates are listed on the BRCVPA calendar, and we will post reminders on the blog a few days before each event. Thank you! BRCVPA is proud to be one of the first 55 nationally certified magnet schools!! Baton Rouge Center for Visual and Performing Arts has been named a Nationally Certified Magnet School by Magnet Schools of America (MSA), the national association for magnet and theme-based schools. BRCVPA was among the first 55 schools located in 12 states (AL, CA, CT, FL, LA, MD, NC, NV, SC, TN, TX, and WI) to successfully complete an approximately nine month evaluation process and demonstrate through evidence, reflection, and strategic action that it has established the best practices entailed in the Magnet School Standards of Excellence. “In an increasingly complex school choice environment, parents, families, students, and local communities can be confident that each nationally certified magnet school is held to the same high standards,” said MSA Executive Director Todd Mann. “The certification process is groundbreaking and the first of its kind. It was created to recognize our most exemplary magnet programs.” The national certification process is based on the Magnet School Standards of Excellence and the five pillars of magnet schools (diversity; innovative curriculum and professional development; academic excellence; high quality instructional systems; and, family and community partnerships). These pillars and standards define the essential elements and characteristics of high-quality magnet programs. To become nationally certified, BRCVPA submitted a detailed application and participated in a rigorous evaluation conducted by the National Institute for Magnet School Leadership (NIMSL). The application process required the school to submit evidence demonstrating how it met each of the multiple indicators included in the Standards of Excellence. This included providing specific examples of how the school is promoting school diversity, closing the achievement gap, integrating a theme-based curriculum throughout the school, and encouraging parent and community involvement. BRCVPA will be recognized during a ceremony held at Magnet Schools of America’s 36th National Conference in Chicago, Illinois April 25-29, 2018. WE ARE THRILLED AND PROUD. #CERTIFIEDMAGNET #BRCVPYAY!
Solar Eclipse Day at BRCVPA turned out to be a huge success! Thank you, Ms. Dafoe, the arts staff. and the classroom teachers for creating an experience we will never forget. A very special thank you to all the parent volunteers who came out to join the fun! Enjoy the video!
We would like to thank the LSU Community Bound Project for coming out to teach our students about community service, math, science, the arts, literature, and most importantly, friendship! Our 1st and 2nd grade students enjoyed a day filled with activities and created memories that will last a lifetime! Thank you, LSU! Geaux Tigers!!

Parents/guardians of students at BRCVPA now have access to the Student Progress Center which will display student data. All parents will require a Parent Security Number (PSN) when registering as a new user. You may click on the link below and type "PSN" in the comment section to request your parent security number (PSN). For security reasons, the person accessing the student data must supply information that matches the data in the student database.
We will not be able to provide you with a PSN until your student information sheet has been turned in and your information has been manually updated in the student database system. Thank you for your patience as we all learn to navigate the new system. |
