 Did someone say BINGO?! The students in Ms. Dixon’s homeroom did! Way to go Ms. Dixon’s class for being the first fourth grade class to earn the behavior bingo reward! They were rewarded with an ooey-gooey chocolate chip cookie party! We are so proud of each of you for working so hard! Ms. Showalter’s class and Ms. Gaubert’s class- who will be next?!

CACRC (Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council) is a nonprofit organization committed to both e-scrap reduction by decreasing the e- waste stream to landfills and to providing refurbished computers and equipment to schools, nonprofits, and low income families. The organization accomplishes this by electronic refurbishment and recycling-including collection, sorting, dismantling, refurbishing, data wiping, sales, and donations. Studies have shown that students with access to a home computer are more likely to excel in their studies and graduate from high school. This company offer computers that are not only affordable, but built to last for students. Visit their website for more information about this wonderful organization and programs – www.cacrc.com.  In Ms. Berry's class they read the biography The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau. They learned all about his love for the sea and the many inventions that have helped to share the beauty of the sea with the world! In the art center students drew an illustration of Jacques and the sea creatures of the deep. With Ms. Moore, students wrote paragraphs about why and how Jacques Cousteau explored the sea. Students are having a whale of a time in Ms. Berry's 3rd grade class!
 This year we are excited to offer an end of the year Disney trip to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at BRCVPA! If your child is in one of those grade levels, they should have brought home a note with a link to an interest survey to see who would want to join us in May!

We are here to bring you another pro-tip about the new and improved Box Tops for Education program by General Mills. There is a newly updated app that you'll need to download (see here) and then register and select our school (listed as BR Center for Visual and Performing Arts). From there you'll just scan an eligible receipt containing Box Tops products. For each Box Top product, you'll earn 10 cents for the school! The app does all the work to add to our school's earnings, and you'll be able to see what we've raised this year! Signing up is easy! Watch the quick video for a tutorial. Students in first grade researched and created a habitat diorama that represented various places around the world including grasslands, the Arctic, and oceans.  Here is an exciting opportunity for our students. The LSU Band has offered our students FREE tickets to their concert! The concert will feature some of the wonderful faculty, student conductors, and musicians. The first Wind Ensemble concert is on Sunday, September 29th at 4:00 pm. The first half will feature the bassoon professor, Darrell Hale, as a soloist, and the second half features pieces by Donald Grantham.
Anyone interested in attending the concert, can complete the complimentary ticket form at least one business day prior to the concert. Our Fall Fest T-Shirt Design Contest flyers will be sent home today! Every student at BRCVPA has the opportunity to submit artwork that could be featured on the front of our 2019 Fall Fest T-Shirt! This year, our Fall Fest Theme is "The Greatest School on Earth!" Each student can submit a balloon design that could make it onto the shirt! Please see the flyer below for specific details and guidelines! We can't wait to see your creations! ALL DESIGN SUBMISSIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE BRCVPA OFFICE BY OCTOBER 3RD TO BE CONSIDERED!  The BR Capital City Rotary club invites you to join in on a day of community gathering and fun! This event is free and open to the public and will take place on Sunday, October 6 from 1-6 pm at BREC's Highland Road community park. For more information, see flyer below! The 2019 Safety Fair will provide an opportunity for students and their families to receive free resources, training, certifications and giveaways! Examples of resources include Hands On CPR Certification, Free Smoke Detector sign-ups, Resiliency Leadership Training and more. This event will be held on Saturday, September 28 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the ExxonMobil YMCA located at 7717 Howell Blvd. in Baton Rouge. There will be food and drinks and giveaways!! We need YOU to build a cardboard arcade and compete in the Knock Knock Cardboard Arcade Challenge. This mini club will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Tuesday, September 24th with a final club meeting, Thursday, October 24th. If your child is interested in joining the Knock Knock Club, please fill out the bottom form and return it to his or her classroom teacher by Tuesday, September 24th. Space is limited to 15 students! A paper copy of this letter will be sent home with your child on Monday, September 23rd. The New Orleans Pelicans and Saints invite you to attend the 2019 STEM Fest! This festival will take place on Saturday October 19 at the Superdome and Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. There will be live performances, interactive presentations, and lots of hands on activities to ignite curiosity and increase awareness of STEM career pathways. Opportunities to participate in Saints and Pelicans activities will also be available. Students who sold 10 or more boxes during the World's Finest Chocolate Fundraiser got a special treat! A limo arrived at school and whisked the kiddos to Curbside where they enjoyed burgers and ice cream. They all had a blast! |
