Sami has been promoted to Black Belt in Training in the Korean Martial Art of Han Mu Do. He received his belt on Thursday December 15, 2016. It is a Black belt with a red stripe. Sami has been learning Han Mu Do since he was 5 years old at Kimm’s Institute of Self Defense in Baton Rouge. He has been very disciplined, attending classes 3-4 times per week since he started. We anticipate he will be testing for his black belt in April of next year. If he is successful, he will be one of the youngest students at Kimm’s Institute to become a black belt at the age of 8 years old.
If you also have some exciting news that you would like to share with our BRCVPA family, please email us so we can feature you on the blog. Mrs. Savant's third graders have been super busy this month! Pajama Day was filled with students making snow, ornaments, cards for children at OLOL, and reindeer. The students also had a blast at the Christmas Party, which included passing out Christmas Compliments and a Book Exchange. Choristers and Recorder Percussion did a super job when they performed at the Mall Of Louisiana on Saturday, December 17th. This is a reminder that club pictures are tomorrow morning.
ALL CLUBS STUDENTS need to wear their club t-shirts for pictures. Thank you!! Monday, 12/19
We love celebrating the successes of our students! When Mrs. Miller ran into Jack and his family celebrating his newly-earned first degree black belt status, she insisted that we share it with the school. We were thrilled to do so. Way to go, Jack!

Our BRCVPA students came together as human paint drops to recreate a piece of artwork that celebrates Louisiana music and culture. Dressed in color-coordinated school t-shirts, the students used landscaping materials and their own bodies collectively to produce a piece of art that can only be seen in its entirety from above. The art piece, entitled "The Accordion Player," was originally produced by artist Robert Grieve (1955). The image was plotted out on the ground using flag markers and spray paint, then filled in with mulch, sand and finally the children to complete the living artwork.
The project leader, Daniel Dancer, travels all over the world educating students about environmental responsibility, and teaches them to use their "sky sight" to see through the eyes of all beings and through the eyes of future generations. The students were able to see how each individual can come together as one to create something amazing. It seemed the weather might delay or even cancel the project, but there was a 25-minute break in the rain that allowed all 435 students, 60 faculty and staff members, and several parent volunteers to quickly form the piece, which was photographed from above by Paul Charbonnet, co-owner of Atmosphere Aerial Photography. We would like to recognize the generous donations of landscaping materials by Louisiana Nursery and Clegg's Nursery, and the tireless efforts of our dedicated parent volunteers! Don't miss the 1st Grade Mini-Production, based on Natasha Wing's "The Night Before the Snow Day" today at 12:10 in the auditorium!
The students and teachers have put in a lot of time and creative energy to bring you a great show! We hope to see you soon! Third graders had a blast at the Capitol and Museum downtown! Ms. Kershaw was selected to receive a $2,715 grant from Cox Charities for the "Season 1: Gardening, A Living Outdoor Classroom" program. She was one of five EBR teachers that will receive funding from the 2016 Cox Charities Innovation in Education grant program.
Cox Communication recognizes that teachers play a critical role in improving the quality of life in our community. This grant will allow us to improve the educational experience of our students, and together, we can and will continue to make a difference. Ms. Kershaw was recognized by the EBRPSS School Board. Please don't forget that Wednesday, December 14th is Crazy Holiday Sock day and Friday, December 16th is Pajama Day. We can't wait to see our students dressed in their holiday attire!
