Next up in our 34th season at Playmakers is our Christmas musical, Harry Connick, Jr.'s The Happy Elf, running December 9-18, 2016 in The Reilly Theatre on LSU's campus.
A new musical comedy by Grammy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated composer and lyricist, Harry Connick, Jr.; The Happy Elf tells the tale of Eubie the Elf, a lovable fellow who wants to spread Christmas joy throughout the town of Bluesville. Hoping to introduce a new generation of children to the joys of jazz, Connick has crafted a musical landscape against which Eubie’s story unfolds. We're also excited to announce auditions for our special concert event, A Christmas Carol, a co-production with the Manship Theatre at the Shaw Center for the Arts, celebrating 10 years of A Christmas Carol in Baton Rouge. Manship Theatre and Playmakers of Baton Rouge are thrilled to reunite and celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the original staging of A Christmas Carol the Musical on the Manship stage. Running December 21 & 22, this concert event will bring together familiar faces, including Robert Wilson returning to the role of the infamous Ebenezer Scrooge. Originally mounted in 2006, this Dickens classic was written for the stage by Richard Hellesen with original music by David DeBerry.
