This summer Nathalia G was a member of the YMCA swim team, the Hurricanes. Her dad is a sportswriter, and writes weekly stories for friends and family to update them on her progress. Here's the latest! Go Nathalia!!! GRUBB CONTINUES TO FLASH HER POTENTIAL; WINS TWO HEATS AT GRBRSL CHAMPIONSHIPS
DENHAM, La. — First-year swimmer Nathalia Grubb saved her best for the biggest stage. Competing in the Greater Baton Rouge Swim League Championships at Greystone Country Club, Grubb, a 10 year old from Baton Rouge, finished first in her heat in the 25 yard backstroke and was the lead for the YMCA Hurricanes’ 100 yard medley relay team that also won its heat. She finished fourth in the 25 yard freestyle. Facing off against some of the top club teams in the area didn’t faze Miss Grubb. She was more worried about the sun and heat beating down at “I just tried to think of it as just another race,” she said. “I pretended I was in the pool with my friends Kylie and Alex.” Grubb has continued to progress throughout the season and her coaches have taken notice. She was greeted with high fives and “Great swim!” as she left the pool after her showing in the backstroke. “I want to get better and I love to swim,” she added. “I want to go back to the lake house in Michigan and practice.” To which her mother, Desiree Munoz-Grubb, responded, “We have a pool at our apartment. She can swim there.” Grubb and her teammates recently found out that two additional meets have been added to the schedule, giving her more opportunities to improve her times and build towards the fall. “We want to get her on another team once school’s back in,” said Munoz-Grubb. “She’s really enjoyed it so far.” There seem to be plenty of hours in the pool and prune-y fingers ahead for Nathalia Grubb. She wouldn’t have it any other way.
