LEAP 2025 Social Studies Updates

After analyzing the past two years of assessment data and holding many conversations with stakeholders, the Louisiana Department of Education is shortening the 3rd and 4th grade social studies summative assessment to reduce testing time by approximately 25%. The 5th grade social studies assessment will also be shortened by removing an item set. 

The LEAP 2025 Social Studies Assessment will: 

• ask students to apply their understanding of social studies content and concepts by making connections and showing relationships among ideas, people, and events withing and across time and place

The new design will: 

• reduce the number of sessions at grades 3 and 4 from 3 sessions to 2 sessions 
• eliminate the task set and one of the item sets (3rd & 4th grade) 
• eliminate one of the item sets (5th grade)
